Dust settles

Now that the dust settled (somewhat) and we got into a routine of things, I will be posting more. I do have a few Gs of data per month, and I’ll be using them to post more on my blog.

No, I won’t be on Facebook, much. While the app and messenger are horrendous data hogs, the website isn’t much better. I suspect it’s the large images and ads, but I blow through a lot of data when I’m on there.

Take heart, I will be on when we go to the library, although I use that opportunity to post to my story blog (here, if anyone is interested). However my time is limited so even though I do check my notifications and stalk a few friends, I still won’t be posting there much.

It will still be crazy for the next few weeks as Mike starts working tomorrow. Financially, we are still very tight, but with someone helping with the house payments (thanks, Jon) and the fact that we no longer have a car or camper payment, we can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel.

When School Is Out

Right now, the internet is slow – again. The RV park isn’t half full. What am I going to do when school is out?

I have been working on ways to make money online. I opened a new CafePress account for my Tech Blog, although it’s been more about Web Design lately. The problem is trying to upload the images. Apparently, if there’s any issue with the packets sent over the network, CafePress ignores it and I have to try again.

I’m sure I’m trying to do too much at once. It’s not helping. I’ve been wanting to start video blogging, but since my camera broke, I kind of lost interest. Don’t worry, I have a new one on the way, but it’s not going to be here until the end of March.

I do have my web cam, but I’m not interested in making a “sit down” blog. Just talking about my life isn’t as interesting as actually showing it.

I have my tech blog, and like I said, lately it’s been on software and web design. Until I have money to buy products to review,  the product review posts will be sparse.  Although, I have considered reviewing products that I’ve had for a while, after all, we all want to know how it holds out normal, everyday use.

What to do When your Luck is bad

I’m about to launch my video blog. I’m so excited, got the first minute of recording…

…And my camera dies. My Sony Handycam seemed to have bit the dust . It served me well, recording hundred of hours memories and failed blog attempts because I’m just too much of a perfectionist, at least when it comes to video editing. There’s always something that isn’t right.

However, it taught me more in its death than it’s life. I should have been less of a perfectionist.

That said, not all is lost. I told Sarah that there was good news and bad news. The good news, she just got herself a new 32GB SD card. The bad news: Most of the videos that go on it will probably be mine.

Unlike my Sony, the Fujifilm camera only can take 10 minute shots and the sound quality isn’t as good, but the videos are relatively the same size. I will still post a video tonight, but you’ll see (and hear) the difference, I’m sure.

I’ve edited the website: http://thisboringlife.nancieswebonline.com and added a donation button. I need a camera so I won’t be using Sarah’s all the time. It’ll be a start.

I’ll be changing the current video player to a YouTube player. Expect today’s daily up soon.

My Plans

Tonight I finally finish the new header for my blog, which will also show up on my Facebook and YouTube page. Tomorrow I add a video page to my WordPress. I will still be using YouTube for videos temporarily but I may just host everything on my own server, only using YouTube for montages and shorts.

This means that for the next few days, I won’t be posting much, not on my blog or on Facebook. sorry.

Soon

Soon Cat and BirdI know my blogging is sporadic. At the moment, I am still focused on updating my website. The good news, the internet has been a little better lately and I finally got most of the new design up. It still needs work, but it’s nice to have something accomplished.  It won’t be long before I start to post more frequently. What’s more, I’m setting the kids up on their sites as well, so you will be seeing more of them.

I am working hard at getting everything up and running by January 1st, as I start video blogging then.

New theme update

I changed my theme to an out-the-box version, for now. I’ve been meaning to update the family photo here, but haven’t been able to get to that. At the moment, I’ve been working more on my personal site instead. I also decided to change the theme to reflect shorter posts and photos since I haven’t had the time to post longer ones. Hopefully, this gives me an incentive to post more frequently.

In Texas

We finally made it to the “Texan RV Park” and after all the problems getting here, what could possibly go wrong? Let’s see…  The internet is awful, only because we are too far from the WAP. Fortunately, that could be resolved by getting an antenna booster.  Unfortunately, we aren’t spending on anything extra until Mike is working again. It’s in the 90s and our air conditioner quit and now… it’s raining and nothing seems to be able to dry out.

On the bright side, we made it in one piece and the camper is still intact, minus the AC. Pfft, who needs AC in September anyway? Oh that’s right, we’re in Texas. It does seem that we have brought the cold with us. It’s supposed to be in the fifties at night for the next few days. Maybe by then we will have the AC fixed.

Until we get a booster, I’ll probably be on only twice a week.  This is when I have to do laundry and the internet is stable and fast.  I think one of the WAPs are there. This will mean no Skype for a little while longer, but I will be posting to my blog.

Crazy Week

I have been so focused on my husband’s website, that I have lost track of time. I didn’t realize it’s been so long since my last post and so much has happened that I don’t know where to start… So, here goes:

A couple of weeks ago, my husband was fired from his job. I won’t go into too many details, but by the sounds of it, it won’t be long before this particular plant will shut down and the jobs move elsewhere. My husband had been complaining for a while now on the incompetent managers, and of course, I’m sure the incompetent managers didn’t like him at all. The fact of the matter is, incompetent people do not like the competent, because it reminds them how terrible they really are. So, when he finally made a mistake, they were all too eager to get rid of him.

It’s interesting to note, my husband is now happier and more motivated than he was. Granted, it will be extremely tight for the next few months as we both find ways to make money at home, but it’s nice to see him not spending most of his non-working, awake time reading Fark and political forums. Instead, he has been spending more time with the kids, which makes the kids happier.

My husband is currently a licensed Master Electrician in VT. While he’s not sure if he wants to make this his permanent profession, any work that brings in cash is good work. So, as I have said before, I’m working on his website, so it would be easy for someone to look him up.  Later, there will be more to the site. At the time of this posting, there’s only a homepage and a contact page (which also contains the towns that he will be servicing). We’ve talked about having weekly content published and move towards more of an informational site, rather than continue with the trade. We are not sure yet, but I’ve added the “Articles” mod and now I have to learn how to use it. Because there are so many interruptions in life with five kids and two dogs, it’s taking much longer than it should.

So, now, even with the future uncertain, I am still optimistic. I never see what most would consider “bad luck” to actually be bad. I’ve learned a while ago that anything bad happens is a learning opportunity. Interestingly enough, I seem to be more productive on the computer than I have been when we were certain that we would have a paycheck next week. Perhaps, this is God’s way of giving us the “kick in the pants” that we needed to start focusing on being better.

I’m moving… I think

This used to be “Nancie’s Web family life” but now I’ve moved it, and given it a new name.  At the time of this post, there isn’t much here, but I plan to change that as I learn how to use WordPress.

It’s not that I don’t like blogger or I have anything against Google (at least not yet), but I decide to use my personal blog to experiment with WordPress since it is another popular blogging application.

I will still be using blogger for my MOMETEK blog, and I’ll probably use it for anything new I can dream up. I do like blogger, I just wanted to try something different for one of my blogs, and to have it on my personal website, which makes more sense for a personal blog.

So, here’s to years of more rambling in text for complete strangers to see. I found some interesting related links on Zemanta, so be sure to check them out below.
